A FILM about the historic May 9 elections, Rise: Ini Kalilah, is not funded by the government as claimed by critics, said its producer, Fred Chong.
Rise: Ini Kalilah was an independent effort and had nothing to do with the Pakatan Harapan government and its victory at the 14th general election, he said today.
Chong has hit out at the public backlash and calls to boycott the “propaganda” film.
“There are also comments and also online keyboard warriors writing really bad stuff about it, like asking people to boycott the movie saying it is a DAP film, funded by the government.
The film opened nationwide last Friday.
Some commentators also expressed their anger and disappointment with PH and said they regretted voting for it.
Chong said some of the comments were made by those who have yet to watch the movie.
Rise: Ini Kalilah is six vignettes and set in the days leading up to the general election.
The cast is as multiracial as the dialogue in Malay, English, Mandarin and Tamil. Remy Ishak, Mira Filzah and Jack Tan are among the actors in the film directed by Nik Amir Mustapha, Saw Teong Hin and Prem Nath. – September 17, 2018.
