SEVERAL hours of rain late last night and early today brought relief to at least two districts in Sabah from a possible heatwave.
State Meteorological Department Director Asemi Daud said the showers had brought Sandakan and Beaufort out of the Level-1 heatwave alert.
However, Tongod and Kota Marudu were still at risk, he said.
“We hope the weather will continue to be normal like this,” he told The Malaysian Insight.
Over the last three days, temperatures in Kota Kinabalu, Keningau and Sandakan hovered at a scorching 35°C, while temperatures of about 34°C were recorded in Kudat and Tawau.
But the rain cooled rising temperatures, bringing it down to around 30°C.
The Meteorological Department forecast rain and cloudy skies throughout the day.
The dry spell iss because of Typhoon Noru over the Pacific Ocean, but the weather is expected normalise on Sunday, when the typhoon loses energy as it heads towards mainland China, says Azemi. – August 3, 2017.
