POLICE investigations have revealed that a total of US$972 million (RM2.973 billion) was transferred into former prime minister Najib Razak’s personal bank account, said deputy Inspector-General of Police Noor Rashid Ibrahim.
The funds were transmitted in several phases and via the companies Good Star, Aaabar and Tanore, he said.
“We have identified more than 100 transactions, and we have identified individuals involved in receiving the funds from these transactions,” he told reporters at a press conference in Bukit Aman today.
Noor Rashid said more than 50 witnesses have had their statements recorded.
He said the recipients were from both within the country and overseas, and some had links to politics.
He declined to provide more details.
Noor Rashid said police need more time to complete their investigations, as agencies abroad are involved.
He added that police require mutual legal assistance from some countries.
“We have asked the attorney-general to help us with this, so that we can get assistance from our counterparts overseas.”
He said among the countries cooperating with Malaysia in the probe are the US, Switzerland, Singapore and Saudi Arabia. – September 13, 2018.
