DEPUTY Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi should reveal the names of the masterminds behind the 2015 Wang Kelian human-trafficking case instead of “divulging” Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s Indian lineage, challenged a DAP lawmaker.
Batu Kawan MP Kasthuri Patto asked that Zahid, who is also home minister, make public the names of the three “big sharks”, who are supposed to be extradited from Thailand.
“There is no point in taking a dig at someone’s Indian background but keeping silent on the three big sharks in the human-smuggling syndicate.
“We hope Zahid accepts our challenge to reveal the names of the masterminds and explain why they have not been charged or tried in Malaysia,” she said in a press conference at the media room in Parliament today.
In June, Zahid had said the government would apply for an extradition order seeking the return of the three suspects for them to be tried here.
He had said the three were the syndicate’s masterminds and not merely assistants as previously claimed.
The case, considered one of the biggest of its kind in Malaysia, saw the discovery of 139 graves in 28 temporary detention camps in the Perlis jungle. – August 3, 2017.
