Najib's donation letters raise more questions than answers, says Tony Pua

THE letters that Najib Razak released yesterday, which he claimed was proof he received US$100 million (RM415 million) in 2011 from the Saudi royal family, only raises more questions, said chief critic and DAP lawmaker Tony Pua.

Najib, in a Facebook post yesterday, said King Abdullah gave him the donation to combat an uprising similar to the Arab Spring, which saw several leaders of Arab-Muslim countries toppled in the Middle East, should it happen in Malaysia.

Pua, who is Damansara MP, however, questioned the timing of the statement.

“Why show these letters now? Can these letters even stand in court?” he told The Malaysian Insight.

Najib had posted three documents allegedly from King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia with one bearing the words “Recognition of Contribution to the Islamic World”, dated February 1, 2011.

Two other documents were financial transaction statements dated February 24, 2011 and on November 25 the same year.

The documents for the SWIFT money transfer in 2011 showed that US$20 million was transferred from the account of Prince Faisal Turkey Al Saud and US$80 million was transferred from the Saudi Finance Ministry.

“Why haven’t these princes come forward to state that these are donations?” said Pua, who is a special officer with the finance ministry.

Pua added that Najib will not be able to persuade the public at large that the amount was a merely donation.

“He can’t convince anyone with morsels of incomplete ‘evidence’ which raises more questions than answers.”

Najib had posted on his Facebook page that “On February 1, 2011, Prince Abdulaziz Al-Saud wrote to me to tell me that the Saudi government will prepare US$100 million (RM415 million) for me in 2011.

“The king was concerned after knowing there was the possibility of a Malaysian Spring, as Malaysia was also a Muslim country although it was not in the Middle East or Africa.

“Due to these concerns as well as our close relationship, in early 2011, the king promised to prepare funds for me and the party to be used in Malaysia,” he said.

Najib added he will soon reveal further donations and reveal the source of the RM2.6 billion which he claimed was donated to him by a Saudi prince. – September 11, 2018.

  • PH government -- please stop all this side shows of Najib. Enough. !!! Get the job done by charging him if he is guilty or else let him go scot free. Too long a delay and rakyat is fed up of both Najib and PH in the 1MDB debacles. PH government is dilly dallying with Najib and purposely letting him play havoc daily in his FB by his posting remarks and freely giving statements in every field that he was so silent when he was the PM. Is that a diversion from the PH disapoinment in truly running the country. Many promises from PH are still in the cold and leting Najib being silly in his actions as a diversion of PH failures are not helping the rakyat to improve their wretched lives. Rakyat is monitoring and patience are already at tattered ends. Do not let us equate PH as useless as UmnoBN.

  • News archives will show that Najib was close to King Abdullah? Hence the donations for Islamic advancement. (America, etc, may have done the same to promote Christianity) Things in Middle East countries can be shrouded in secrecy, so that is why no info may be forthcoming from them on donations to Najib.

    • As to whether those letters will stand up in court, Najib's legal team have to lead the evidence, and A-G's lawyers can rebut or disprove. Actually Najib does not even have to show his letters, or use them to persuade us, all he has to do is just remain silent, & let the A-G prove their case against him. We just have to be patient & wait for the court proceedings. Najib may be down, but not out!..

  • Najib Razak has declared himself a crook & traitor by claiming that he willingly became a vassal of a foreign nation by accepting colossal "donations" to promote a Saudi agenda. He also confessed to stealing the 2013 election.

  • If he is truly innocent, why doesnt he disclose all the bank statements and show all the transactions? Justify each and every transaction and tell us what are these transactions for. Who paid and what for. That is how u want to prove your innocence. Anything short of that will mean concoction of evidence

  • The bigger picture now is CAN HADI's INSISTENCE ON ISLAM SAVE US FROM ISLAMIC STATE (or offshoots)?

    • Islamic State & terror on the sidelines may bring us all to our senses, if we are not careful. Hadi may yet save us by strict insistence on Islam, which is what IS demands. Once prosperous nations havd paid the toll..

  • There is a dark goat hiding behind the scenes concocting these narratives in an attempt to create a flawed parallel scenario to try to explain away the crime and to distract simple minds from the truth. Only the goat can come up with these stories as the principal actor is a lame brain whose cognitive functions are controlled by a head which hangs between his thighs.
