A HUNDRED cyclists marked the country’s 61st national day with a 140km-ride which ended in Putrajaya in a symbolic celebration of the new Pakatan Harapan (PH) government.

Saiful Adly, the contingent leader of the cyclists, said Putrajaya was a meaningful location to end the ride as it symbolises new hope for the country.

“The end of the race was a symbolic to return to Putrajaya, just as PH’s replacement of the old regime here symbolises the return to greatness,” Saiful said at the finish line.

The group, which consists of 61 main cyclists and 39 support cyclists, rode from Gemencheh in Negri Sembilan earlier today as part of the “Kayuhan Kemerdekaan 2018” ride.

“This is so important as they were successful in manifesting their vision and mission, whilst also showing their love for Malaysia by completing the route through obstacles such as the hot weather,” said Deputy Communications and Multimedia Minister Eddin Syazlee Shith, who greeted the riders at the finish line.

One of the participants, Nur Azlina Esa, who is suffering from lymphoma cancer, dedicated the event to all cancer patients nationwide.

“This event is not a race, rather an event to test our health, strength and will,” said the 39-year old.
