NAJIB Razak has questioned why Pakatan Harapan has not started investigating claims that RM160 billion in Bank Negara funds had gone missing and that Defence Ministry land had been privatised during his tenure as prime minister, as it had claimed prior to the 14th general election.
In a Facebook post today, Najib said now that Pakatan Harapan has held Putrajaya for five months, it could begin investigating the claims, but had yet to do so.
“It could investigate and find evidence but to date, there has been no announcement or statement about these two serious allegations.
He said that Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s allegations that RM160 billion had been “lost” from Bank Negara’s reserve fund under his administration was not true.
“During Dr Mahathir time, due to Forex trading when he led the government administration during the 90s, RM31.5 billion (RM100 billion today) was lost.
“But it has already been ratified by the Royal Commission of Inquiry.
“The RM160 billion was not lost or stolen but was converted from foreign currency to ringgit in an effort to defend the value of the ringgit at the time.
“It was not the same as the Forex losses in the 90s.”
Najib also refuted former minister Rafidah Aziz’s claims that 40,000ha of Defence Ministry land had been privatized to a company owned by three individuals.
“Allah’s name was used to swear on this allegation, which is false.
“This (allegation) had angered army voters before the election.” – September 6, 2018.
