THREE names have been submitted to Putrajaya for the post of Kuala Lumpur mayor, said Federal Territories Minister Khalid Samad.
He said the names were handed to the Prime Minister’s Department after he received Mayor Amin Nordin Abdul Aziz’s resignation letter.
“I have sent three names to Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohammad. The decision (on the shortlisted names) is final.
“We will be able to confirm by the middle of the month,” he said after checking out the beautification of back alleys in Bukit Bintang.
Khalid said he received Amin’s resignation letter on Saturday.
He said Amin quit because he felt that he had served in Kuala Lumpur City Hall for too long and that, after 40 years, was looking to spend more time with his family.
Khalid said the final decision on the next mayor rested with Dr Mahathir.
He said the matter would be brought up in next week’s cabinet meeting.
Khalid added that the new mayor would not be appointed via local elections.
Amin Nordin, who is Kuala Lumpur 11th mayor, has 38 years’ experience in local government administration and urban management. He began as deputy director in City Hall’s Landscape Department in 1978 when he was 22. – September 4, 2018.
