DEPUTY Home Minister Azis Jamman wants police to arrest those accusing him of approving citizenship of illegal immigrants in Sabah.
The Sepanggar MP said such claims have gone viral and were an attack on his party, Parti Warisan Sabah, and were meant to denigrate him.
“These viral claims involve distribution of a form and insinuate that I have given approval to certain individuals.
“I would like to stress here that I have ordered police to investigate this matter and arrest those who have used my name to do this,” he told reporters today.
Azis was attending a raid by the Immigration Department on several squatter areas in Kota Kinabalu to search for undocumented migrants. Also present was department director Mustafar Ali.
Warisan has denied previously that it was involved in issuing forms to register for identity cards or citizenship.
The party’s executive secretary Arifin Asgali said it had no authority to issue identity cards or citizenships as this power lies with the federal government.
The Sabah government, however, is presently conducting a state-wide census on illegal immigrants with the aim of documenting them and to collect the foreign workers’ levy. – September 4, 2018.
