FINANCE Minister Lim Guan Eng said the prices of goods will reflect the sales and services tax within one or two months.

He said the Customs Department was in the midst of preparing a recommended retail price list for SST-imposed items, with the help of the Domestic Trade and Consumerism Ministry.

He said the current list of goods exempt from SST had yet to be finalised, and that his ministry was gathering feedback on possible additions to be made.

“We are not like the previous government, which made the goods and services tax exemption list final. We still want to hear from the people on whether there are more things that should be exempt.

“The decision will be made at the end of the year. Although SST has received royal assent, the minister still has the power to amend the exemption list,” he told reporters after a four-hour briefing on SST’s implementation in Kota Kinabalu today.

Present was Director-General of Customs T. Subromaniam.

Bernama reported Lim as saying air transport services in Sabah and Sarawak were exempt from SST.

He said the exemption was granted as air transport was critical for those living in the two states, given their vast size and terrain.

“Sabah and Sarawak are vast. Thus, the air transport system is critical for the states. This is the reason for the exemption.”

He said air transport services in the two states were previously hit with GST, which was introduced by the former Barisan Nasional administration.  – September 2, 2018.
