RESIDENTS of low-cost housing PPR Lembah Subang are hoping to end their rent and own the units instead.
At a dialogue last night with PAS candidate for the Seri Setia by-election, Dr Halimah Ali, residents brought up their grouses regarding the area.
A resident, who only wanted to be known as Noraini, said it was one of the main issues felt by many in the area.
She said the rent-to-own scheme was part of the previous government’s plan and hoped it would be implemented.
“We no longer want to rent. We want to own it.
“If you (Halimah) become the assemblyman, maybe there will be a check and balance and I hope the issue will be made a priority,” she said yesterday.
Another resident Mohamad Raya Ali, 41, said they have voted in hopes of a change in the rent for the unit but things remain the same.
“We have voted again and again, but we are still renting.
“Those from the earlier generation are also urging the same,” he said.
He added the matter should be brought to the attention of their representative.
Halimah said the locals should also urge the government to change its policy.
Later, Halimah said it is the responsibility of the government to ensure those less fortunate get a house.
“Of course, it is up to the government but it is possible to be done,” she told reporters.
Another resident said there are too many issues to be highlighted in the PPR but what should be the main focus is the education for children in the area.
Halimah responded that she will meet all stakeholders to improve the area surrounding the low-cost units if the party wins the Seri Setia by-election.
“We will find out what is crucial and needs immediate attention.”
The Seri Setia by-election will be held simultaneously with the Balakong by-election on September 8. – August 29, 2018.
