Youth candidate hopes party polls won’t split PKR

THE two camps in the PKR party elections should ensure their contest will not result in a party split, said Dr Afif Bahardin.

The PKR Youth chief aspirant said the contest should be an avenue to forge stronger ties between members and take it forward.

“Do not make the elections a reason to split the party. Let’s make the candidacy as a framework for unity so that PKR will become strong,” the Seberang Jaya assemblyman said during a debate among the aspirants for the post on Astro Awani last night.

Other aspirants for the post include Johor Baru MP Akmal Nasir and Kota Anggerik assemblyman Najwan Halimi.

“Akmal’s team is my team and Najwan’s burdens are also my burdens,” he said.

Agreeing with Affif, Najwan said unity, regardless of factions, will make PKR stronger.

“Moving forward, we must remember our roots, I offer hope to the AMK, we must unite and be stronger.

“Regardless of what camp, creed, we must strengthen AMK to help the president,” he said.

Najwan said the presence of camps in party politics cannot be denied.

“Do not deny that there are camps in the party. ‘Cai dan’ (menu) is a proof of it. More importantly, AMK must be free from influences, and the AMK leader must be free from being influenced by personalities,” he said.

Akmal, however, said the more than 800,000 PKR members need to choose candidates who champion reforms rather than a leader with personal agenda.

Akmal is vice-president Rafizi Ramli’s supporter, who is challenging incumbent Azmin Ali for the deputy president’s post. He is leading a team against those aligned with Azmin in the party polls.

For Afif, Anwar Ibrahim as president, Azmin as deputy president and he as the chairman of AMK is the continuity of the party’s leadership.

“PKR is a strong party, there is a strong ideology, multiracial, and is a microcosm of Malaysia.

“AAA – Anwar, Azmin, Afif – this is a symbol of continuity of the PKR leadership.” – August 28, 2018.
