A WIN for PAS in the Seri Setia by-election would help keep the Pakatan Harapan (PH) state government in check, said the Islamist party candidate Dr Halimah Ali.
She added that another voice from the opposition in the Selangor state legislative assembly would make a difference.
“It would make a lot of difference if it is another voice from the opposition. It will leave a huge impact,” she told reporters after distributing meat in conjunction with Hari Raya Aidiladha in PPR Lembah Subang today.
Halimah was responding to PH candidate Halimey Abu Bakar, of PKR, who had earlier said the state does not need another voice from the opposition to serve as check and balance.
She stressed that by winning, she would be representing all Malaysians and not just those in Seri Setia, and that would bring serious issues to the attention of the state government.
Halimah said the people should also let the state government know that they were aware of what was being done by the PH administration, and that they should not be taken for granted.
“There should be an opposition who dares to speak up to keep the state government in balance,” Dr Halimah added.
Dr Halimah was a former Selat Klang assemblyman. She was also the Selangor exco for education during the tenure of menteri besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim.
There are currently five opposition representatives in the Selangor state legislative assembly, four from Umno and one from PAS.
Seri Setia has 52,650 voters, comprising of 55% Malays, Chinese (20%), Indians (24%) and others (2%).
The by-election will be held simultaneously with Balakong by-election on September 8. – August 23, 2018.
