FORMER Sabah Chief Minister Musa Aman was arrested this morning, Sabah police chief Ramli Din said.

However, police’s application for a remand order was rejected.

“Musa was arrested at 10am. Police applied for remand but were rejected by the magistrate,” Ramli said in a brief message on WhatsApp

It is learnt Musa had checked into the Subang Jaya Medical Centre around 6.45pm on Monday, shortly after arriving from Singapore at the Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport in Subang Jaya, Selangor.

His room, a VVIP suite, was guarded by hospital security against strangers attempting to see the elected representative.

He was previously treated in t the Clementine Churchill Hospital in London, UK, before undergoing  heart bypass surgery in Mount Elizabeth Hospital in Singapore.

Musa is wanted by the police for questioning over a charged of criminal intimidation filed by Sabah Yang di-Pertua Juhar Mahirudin, who alleged that Musa threatened him.

Musa is also sought by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission for allegedly bribing assemblymen to ensure a win for Barisan Nasional in Sabah during the general election.

He has also yet to take his oath as the assemblyman for Sungai Sibuga, which he must do within three months of the Sabah legislative assembly’s first sitting on June 11, if he wishes to keep the seat.

Meanwhile, Deputy Home Minister Azis Jamman said like anybody else, Musa was subject to the standard police treatment with regard to his arrest and detention.

It was SOP for a public doctor instead of a private practitioner to examine and determine whether a suspect with a health complaint should be warded or remain in police custody, Azis said in a statement, in response to the state ruling party, Warisan’s claim that Musa was getting “preferential treatment” from the police. – August 23, 2018.
