IMPROVING the level of education among Seri Setia’s youth will be a priority for Pakatan Harapan, said Halimey Abu Bakar.

“Based on my observations, a lot of infrastructure needs improvement, especially kindergartens, in the Seri Setia state constituency,” said state by-election candidate.

“There are kindergartens that are outdated and should be upgraded immediately.”

Halimey said the standard of English among students should also be improved to enable them to read in another language and increase their knowledge.

“The ability to speak a foreign language will make it easier for the individual to interact with foreign tourists.

“Not only do they get to gain knowledge and interact with others, the skill will also open up more opportunities for them in the workforce.”

Halimey said the community library he helped to establish in Kg Lindungan in Seri Setia had been in operation for five months now.

The library, he said, had become a gathering spot for children after school.

“We focused on building this in a low-cost area because we do not want children to go missing after school without their parents knowing their whereabouts.

The library is a joint effort between the Selangor Public Library Corporation and Petaling Jaya City Council.

Halimey said more than RM700,000 was spent on the library, which was housed in a container.

Asri Atan, the library caretaker, said the facility had received a positive reception and visitors were increasing daily.

“A lot of them come here after school to do their homework. We have up to 60 children in the library a day,” said Asri.

The library also has a small garden, which produce are distributed among the residents in the area. – August 23, 2018.
