THE appeal against former Sabah Bersih chief Jannie Lasimbang’s acquittal of charges under the Peaceful Assembly Act has been postponed to Aug 25.
The postponement was confirmed by her counsel, Ram Singh, in a statement issued by Bersih 2.0 last night.
The hearing was supposed to be held today.
“Bersih will continue to give its support to Jannie and hopes she will be freed of all charges,” said the statement.
She was acquitted of all four charges, under Sections 9(1), 10(c) and 15(3) of the act, on December 26 last year.
The Sabah DAP Wanita chief was initially charged with two counts of organising the Bersih 4 rally at the Tanjung Lipat Public Park without a permit on August 29 and August 30, 2015.
She was charged under Section 9(1) of the Peaceful Assembly Act for not notifying police 10 days before the rally, as required under Section 10(c) of the act.
She also faced two alternative charges under Section 15(3) of the act for failing to comply with conditions imposed by police to obtain approval from City Hall to use its venue for the gathering. β July 28, 2017.
