PROMINENT Umno leaders, donning the party’s red, were seen alongside the PAS entourage in Seri Setia this morning, when nomination began for the September 8 by-election.
Present to support the Islamist party’s candidate were Wanita Umno head Noraini Ahmad, Selangor Umno chief Ismail Sabri Yaakob and information chief Shamsul Anuar Nasarah.
The PAS leaders who turned up in support of candidate Dr Halimah Ali were secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan, deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man and vice-president Idris Ahmad. Some 100 party supporters were present, too.
Meanwhile, Pakatan Harapan candidate Halimey Abu Bakar, of PKR, showed up at the nomination centre with party president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, deputy president Mohamed Azmin Ali, vice-president Chua Tian Chang, better known as Tian Chua, Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari and Petaling Jaya MP Maria Chin Abdullah.
The seat fell vacant following the death of Shaharuddin Badaruddin due to colon cancer on August 2.
Petaling Jaya Umno division chief Abdul Mutalif Abdul Rahim previously said the party would “repay” PAS in Seri Setia for the support it received from the latter in the August 4 Sungai Kandis by-election.
He said Umno would help PAS during its Seri Setia by-election campaign, and would tell its members and supporters to vote for Dr Halimah. – August 18, 2018.
