ANWAR Ibrahim has warned PKR members contesting in the party polls not to play dirty, or be prepared to face the consequences.

The incoming president warned against vote buying, intimidation and slander as these were all contrary to the rules.

“They must observe ethics. No vote buying, no intimidation and no slander.

“We will take action against any excesses (if they are caught),” Anwar told reporters after chairing a meeting with national laureates today.

The former deputy prime minister also said there were “desperate forces” claiming that he was using PKR vice-president Rafizi Ramli as his political tool.

“Rafizi as a public intellectual himself, would not be that cheap to be induced by any personality.

“I do not want to be dragged between the contending individuals, Anwar added.

He believed that both incumbent PKR deputy president Azmin Ali and Rafizi will conduct themselves in a proper manner in the party polls.

“They are all my colleagues and I believe they will all conduct themselves well,” Anwar said.

The PKR polls will be held from September 14 to October 7, and some 800,000 members will vote in stages via an electronic polling system.

Anwar won the presidency uncontested, which would pave the way for him to replace Dr Mahathir Mohamad as prime minister, albeit after winning a parliamentary seat in a by-election. – August 17, 2018.
