PRIME Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad said today the Pakatan Harapan government should be able to fulfil most of its election promises within this term of government.

However, he warned that some the promises would take more than five years.

In light of criticism that the government was finding it difficult to deliver its 10 promises within 100 days of taking over the reins, Dr Mahathir said the most the government could do was to kick-start the process.

“But we will take a little more time to fulfil it (the promises).

“Even in five years, we are not so sure. But most of the problems will be resolved in that period,” he said after launching of the Cardiac Vascular Sentral Kuala Lumpur hospital.

PH marks its 100 days in power tomorrow.

The Pakatan Harapan chairman said the manifesto was based on information gathered before the coalition took over Putrajaya in the 14th general election.

“The manifesto was written on the basis of what we knew the (previous) government was doing.

“Eventually, we found that the situation was much worse, much more worse… because more money was borrowed.”

Out the 10 election pledges that it promised to fulfil in its first 100 days, PH can only tick off two items on the list.

Six others are in progress, although they are still a long way to full implementation because of various studies that need to be done or to amend laws.

Two promises have not been kept at all, after discovering that more time, funds and assessments are needed to ensure their feasibility.

The government machinery has been subverted, he said.

“We can’t define ourselves working in an environment that is not very dedicated to what we want to do.

“So we need to remove people. All these have hindered the progress. Also certain things need to be passed by Parliament, and it takes time to go through Parliament.

“We have to draft the law and things like that.” – August 16, 2018.

  • So long as progress is being made, that's mostly the important thing here?..
