NAJIB Razak has no qualms about Putrajaya’s plan to reopen 1Malaysia Development Bhd investigations by the auditor-general and Public Accounts Committee (PAC).
The former prime minister said the previous PAC had cleared him of any wrongdoing in relation to the scandal-plagued state investor.
“If they want to reopen it, it’s PAC’s right, but it should not be just to find fault,” he told reporters in Parliament today.
The motion to reopen the investigations is listed as item No. 5 on today’s Order Paper, and will be tabled by Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng.
Najib said instead of finding fault, the Pakatan Harapan government should focus on efforts to develop the country.
“They have been given the mandate to govern the country. They should focus on how to build the country by finding new sources of wealth, developing the economy and helping the people.”
The motion, which aims to make public all the findings of the fresh probe, said: “The Dewan Rakyat resolves that the auditor-general and PAC conduct again detailed investigations into the embezzlement of monies and the scandal with regard to 1MDB and its related companies, in order to restore the dignity of the Dewan Rakyat, and that all related information should be made public.”
The first PAC probe, which began in 2015, was completed in February, and its report was published in April.
It said Najib did not commit any offences in relation to 1MDB, and attributed many of the state investor’s failings to its former board of directors led by CEO Shahrol Azrai Ibrahim. – August 15, 2018.
