ANWAR Ibrahim is satisfied with the progress made by the Pakatan Harapan government on the 10 promises it had pledged to accomplish within 100 days of capturing Putrajaya.

He said he had a lengthy discussion with Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad regarding the matter but room will be given to the PH leadership to provide their input.

“I had a lengthy discussion with Dr Mahathir last night and we discussed this.

“I am generally satisfied with the progresses made but we should make space for PH leaders to provide their views as well,” he told reporters at the sidelines of a gathering of students at the Malaysian Student Leaders Summit XII in Kuala Lumpur today.

Anwar also said Dr Mahathir was ready to fix any shortcomings the country was facing.

“In my discussions with Dr Mahathir, he showed his readiness to fix what he felt are the weaknesses at the early stages,” added Anwar.

PH’s election manifesto said it would take 100 days to put into place 10 major policy changes if they are voted into government in the 14th general election.

Among the promises made were to abolish the goods and services tax (GST), introduce Employees’ Provident Fund for housewives and reintroduce targeted fuel subsidies to stabilise the price of petrol.

On Wednesday, the bill to repeal GST was passed in the Dewan Rakyat.

The system which was introduced in April 2015 by the former Barisan Nasional government, will be replaced by the sales and services tax system.

The Sales Tax Bill 2018 and Service Tax Bill 2018 were then passed by the Dewan Rakyat on the same day. – August 11, 2018.
