SABAH records its second bird flu case, this time in Kampung Loputong which is within 5km from where the first case was detected in Kampung Kauluan in Tuaran.
This was confirmed by the Sabah Veterinary Department based on rapid preliminary test that showed positive of the avian influenza virus in the village.
Operation director Dr Vitalis Piusai however said the department was awaiting the complete results from polymerase chain reaction test from the samples taken from the site.
“A new area has been detected since the last on August 8. There are no commercial poultry farms in the village and the clean-up will only involve fowls kept by villagers this time,” he said.
The department is presently undergoing efforts to contain the virus and has culled over 30,000 fowls in Kampung Kauluan near Tamparuli, in Tuaran.
Dr Piusai further noted operations to clear any fowls in the new area will take about two days. – August 10, 2018.
