Najib’s greatest enemy is himself, says Kit Siang

PRIME Minister Najib Razak’s greatest enemy is himself because he has no credibility, and not the DAP or opposition Pakatan Harapan pact, said DAP parliamentary leader Lim Kit Siang today.

The veteran politician said Najib’s lack of credibility was reflected in the number of challenges in the next general elections, including the loss of support from the dominant majority Malays and the 1.6 million civil servants.

“Can Najib overcome these challenges just by telling lies, fake news and false information about DAP and Pakatan Harapan leaders at international conferences?” Lim asked in a press conference at Parliament today, responding to Najib’s attacks against the opposition pact at the Invest Malaysia conference, where the prime minister described the Pakatan Harapan leadership line-up as packed with political pensioners.

Najib’s speech earlier today mentioned a DAP leader as was hiding behind the man who jailed him. It also said the DAP leader tried to deceive Malays into thinking that a former leader was their interim candidate for prime minister.

Although Najib didn’t mention anyone in his speech at the Invest Malaysia Conference, Lim said he was nonplussed when Najib went after him personally.

“I have enough respect for Najib to know that he does not believe the lies he told about me and Pakatan Harapan but what makes him think that national and international investors and opinion would?” Kit Siang said.

“The biggest problem with Najib is that he is the first Malaysian prime minister in 60 years who has zero credibility, at home and internationally,” he said, adding that Najib’s speech today was proof the prime minister was still rattled by Pakatan’s success after its structure, logo and new leadership line-up were announced.

Lim added that even Malaysia’s longest serving prime minister, Dr Mahathir Mohamad, never resorted to any international conference, inside or outside of the country, to “cry baby” about the opposition.

“Does Najib really believe the lies he said in his keynote address at the 13th Invest Malaysia Conference today that Mahathir, Anwar and Muhyiddin have become my stooges and puppets; that I am controlling the puppet strings hiding behind Mahathir’s back?” he said, referring to jailed opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim and Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) president Muhyiddin Yassin.

“When did Mahathir become my stooge and puppet? Why should a 92-year-old Mahathir, who was prime minister for more than one-third of Malaysia’s 60-year history, suddenly become Lim Kit Siang’s stooge and puppet?” he said.

Najib launched an attack on PH’s leadership line-up – led by Dr Mahathir and Anwar – this morning, calling the coalition a return-to-work programme for pensioners in a thinly veiled jab at Dr Mahathir, who returned to politics last year, after stepping down as prime minister of 22 years in 2003. – July 25, 2017.
