WANITA MCA has informed police about two cash transactions Barisan Nasional made to the wing ahead of the 13th general election.

Party sources told The Malaysian Insight that a total of RM300,000 was transferred in 2012 and 2013 and handled by then Wanita MCA chief Yu Chok Tow.

The party’s central committee was also not informed about the transactions, the sources said.

“Both amounts were not small. So, why was it not brought up in the meetings? Usually (if we) get allocations to organise activities, (it will be) reported to the central committee.

“We have to be fair to Wanita (MCA). The funds came from BN, we don’t know if it’s linked to 1MDB. It’s normal for BN to give Wanita funds to organise election activities,” said the source.

Hundreds of bank accounts belonging to politicians, political parties, businessmen and other individuals have been frozen as the Pakatan Harapan-led government ramps up its investigations into the 1Malaysia Development Berhad scandal.

The Malaysian Insight is waiting for a response from Yu.

It was learnt that Wanita MCA received RM100,000 in December 2012 and RM200,000 in February 2013. GE13 was held in May 2013.

Then Wanita MCA treasurer Chew Tock Juan said in a statement on Monday that she was not aware of the source of the BN funding.

She said it was common for BN leaders to provide funding and all allocations have been spent on Wanita MCA’s grassroots election activities.

“The accounts are clear and transparent. The authorities can audit (them) any time,” said Chew.

The RM300,000 was given to a centre that promoted diversification of household income to organise small-scale activities, she said.

Chew, along with Wanita MCA secretary-general Ooi Siew Kim and treasurer-general Lee Liew Loo were at the federal police headquarters in Bukit Aman yesterday with relevant documents and to have their statements recorded.

MCA president Liow Tiong Lai asked for the assistance of former party officials as the investigations intensify.

Wanita MCA chief Heng Seai Kie said in a text message to The Malaysian Insight that a detailed report has been submitted to police.

“Detailed report submitted to the police, everything is OK,” she said, but did not confirm whether Wanita MCA’s account has been frozen. – August 8, 2018.
