OPPOSITION leader Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has denied allegations that he has assets worth RM230 million in 1996 and slammed his accusers of using dirty tactics to bring him down.
Zahid said in 1996, he was Umno Youth chief and a member of parliament on top of managing several listed companies.
“Back then, I was involved in managing four listed companies and I was also a minority shareholder in those listed companies.
“I was also a CEO of one of those companies and director in several other companies.
“So, for sure, the assets were in the form of shares, and those shares were not given for free. It involves loans,” the Umno president told reporters at the Parliament lobby today.
DAP lawmaker Ramkarpal Singh had asked if the government would investigate allegations that Zahid had assets worth up to RM230 million, which was first brought up in August last year. The assets were allegedly acquired while Zahid was Umno Youth chief.
However, Minister in Prime Minister’s Department Liew Vui Keong said that there is no evidence supporting the allegations. – August 7, 2018.
