STATE-OWNED broadcaster Radio Television Malaysia made a RM3.3 million profit from airing the recently concluded World Cup football matches, said Gobind Singh Deo.

Communications and Multimedia Minister Gobind Singh Deo said the government received RM33.3 million in sponsorship and RM30 million was used to purchase airing rights.
“After a total of RM30 million was deducted from the sponsorship, the government made a profit or RM3.3 million,” he said in a written reply.
He was replying to Abdul Rahman Mohamad (BN-Lipis) who asked how the government benefitted from airing the World Cup matches free on RTM.
The profits will go towards a consolidated fund managed by the Finance Ministry, Gobind added.
TV1 and TV2 aired 41 matches, 28 of which were live. There will be 83 repeat screenings on the two channels. – August 7, 2018.
