THE Penang government is still pursuing a proposal for water theme park for upcoming township Batu Kawan on mainland Penang.

Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow (PH-Padang Kota) told the state legislative assembly this morning that the theme park was one of the many ideas to draw local and foreign investors to pump money into the township’s development.

The state government, via its investment arm Penang Development Corporation (PDC), owns land in Batu Kawan in the southern Seberang Prai district.

The township is being developed as a destination for commercial, education, recreation, retail, housing and others.

“PDC plans to pursue this proposal. The project can complete Batu Kawan’s mixed-development growth,” said Chow, who also chairs PDC.

Chow was replying to Goh Choon Aik (PH-Bukit Tambun), who had asked a supplementary question on the status of the water theme park.

He, however, said he did not yet have information on the land for the proposed theme park.

Earlier, Chow also told Goh that 243.62ha of PDC land in the Batu Kawan industrial park had been sold to local and foreign companies to set up their businesses since 2008. – August 7, 2018.
