THE Defence Ministry will form a special task force to investigate scandals including the controversial Scorpene submarine purchase, its minister Mohammad Sabu said.

Sabu said his ministry is open to cooperation with any party to investigate and will form a special task force to investigate the purchase of the two submarines.

“The defence ministry is always prepared to cooperate with any relevant authorities or forming a special task force soon to investigate all the allegations of corruption and mismanagement in the ministry including the purchase of two units of Scorpene submarines,” he said in a written reply.

DAP’s Bukit Bendera MP Wong Hon Wai had asked what was the action taken on the contentious submarine deal especially since there were parties charged in the French courts

It was discovered in 2008 that France state-owned shipbuilding company DCNS and Thales International Asia, from which the Malaysian government purchased two Scorpene submarines for RM5 billion in 2002, paid RM570 million in commissions.

The amount was paid to a company called Perimekar Sdn Bhd controlled by Abdul Razak Baginda, a close friend of Najib Razak, who was defence minister at the time of the purchase.

Three French men linked to the case have been indicted so far and Razak is implicated. – August 7, 2018.

  • A suspected crime committed in 2008 is once again surfacing. For a decade the criminals have enjoyed from the crime. Malaysia is a sucker of a country where criminals run amok and even escape punishment. Our enforcement agencies are a world class joke. I would feel shy to wear their uniform. What can be more disgusting then reading in today's the Sun about Customs RM30m drug being stolen from the wearhouse. PH must continue with their cleaning up of uncivil civil servants. Looks like changing the government is not enough, we have to change the people manning the systems.
