PKR vice-president Nurul Izzah Anwar said she intends to defend her party post and has no plans to give up her Permatang Pauh parliamentary seat.
Nurul Izzah said she has many projects lined up for Permatang Pauh and is committed to seeing them through to completion.
“In Parliament, I had said that for the first and second terms, I met my first love – Lembah Pantai,” said the former Lembah Pantai MP.
Her remarks laid to rest rumours that Permatang Pauh could be a possible seat which her father Anwar Ibrahim, who unofficially won the PKR presidency uncontested yesterday, will be contesting in order to be sworn in as a member of Parliament.
Anwar was the Permatang Pauh MP before his wife Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail won the seat at a 2015 by-election, when he was jailed for sodomy for a second time.
Nurul Izzah declined to comment when pressed on who her father’s preferred choice for party deputy president and vice-president would be.
“Why don’t you ask him? He’s out of prison. I’m not his representative. Insha Allah, I will retain my position as vice-president,” she told reporters at Parliament’s lobby today.
Barring any opposition towards his nomination, Anwar will be named PKR president after his was the only nomination filed for the post at the party’s headquarters yesterday.
A tough fight is expected for the post of deputy president, which will see incumbent Mohamed Azmin Ali try to fight off a challenge by vice-president Rafizi Ramli. – August 6, 2018.
