DR Wan Azizah Wan Ismail said today she will remain as deputy prime minister and Pandan lawmaker after her husband, Anwar Ibrahim, won the post of PKR president uncontested yesterday.

“No (not letting go of my posts). Insha Allah,” she said at the Parliament lobby today.

She, however, declined to reveal the parliamentary seat Anwar will contest in so he could be sworn in as a lawmaker, and eventually appointed prime minister after Dr Mahathir Mohamad steps down in two years’ time.

Pakatan Harapan won the 14th general election in May after its four parties came to a consensus to appoint Dr Mahathir as their prime minister candidate and Dr Wan Azizah as his deputy in January this year.

The coalition also agreed that Anwar, who was released on May 16 after securing a full royal pardon, would succeed Dr Mahathir as prime minister.

Dr Wan Azizah did not contest in the PKR polls and Anwar unofficially won the uncontested post after yesterday’s nominations were closed.

Some 800,000 PKR members will vote for their top leadership through an electronic system next month.

Members who want to protest or appeal against a candidate’s nomination have three days to submit their complaint to the party’s election committee.

PKR party election committee secretary Ismail Yusof said the final candidate list will be announced on Wednesday. – August 6, 2018.

  • Perhaps in her wisdom she feels that Dr. Mahathir should have more than 2 years to finish the initial reform & revamp of the govt?..
