DAP will only announce its candidate for the Balakong by-election after the party has met to discuss and make its decision.

Party secretary-general Lim Guan Eng said DAP has not even set a time for the meeting yet, but was sure it will be held soon.

“There are many speculations in the media about the candidate. The decision will be made after we have met.

“But we have not had our meeting. The announcement will come after,” he told reporters in Penang, declining to discuss the issue further.

“I have nothing more to add on the matter.”

It was widely reported that broadcast journalist Yunna Tan was approached as a potential candidate to run in the Balakong by-election in Selangor.

Tan used to host primetime Chinese current affairs programmes Evening Edition and Prime Talk at Astro AEC. She resigned from her job last week.

Talk of Tan being fielded has caused some unhappiness among the DAP grassroots because she is not a member of the party.

The Balakong seat fell vacant after DAP’s Eddie Ng was killed in a road accident on July 20.

Nomination day for Balakong is on August 18 and polling day on September 8. – August 5, 2018.
