IN a final plea to Sg Kandis voters on polling eve in the constituency, former prime minister Najib Razak has urged Selangor folk to vote for a stronger opposition and representative who dares to speak for them.
In a Facebook post, Najib said since the Pakatan Harapan-ruled state had veered from its noble aims of looking after the well-being of the people, they must vote for Barisan Nasional candidate Lokman Noor Adam to ensure their voices are heard, their interests are not cast aside and that the state and federal governments remain committed to their election promises.
Najib, ousted in the May general election, said without a strong opposition, the PH governments would become too dominant.
“The state government will become arrogant until the voice and interests of the people are ignored,” he said today, adding such a situation was already taking place in that the Selangor government had begun withdrawing welfare incentives.
“Before the election, a lot of promises were made to the people. The rakyat were their priority and the rakyat became the core of their fight.
“The interests of the people are no longer the basis of their administration,” Najib wrote.
Najib, whose government was brought down by a series of financial scandals, said in the past two months, the Selangor government had warned of a possible water tariff hike, a review of the withdrawal of free water and another hike in plastic bag charges.
He said these were examples of the state government breaking its election promises and burdening the people.
Another example he gave was the buy-out of a water company, which he said the state government was willing to pay “10 times more than the price offered by former menteri besar Khalid Ibrahim” until it had fallen into debt with the federal government.
“It’s not impossible if more incentives are withdrawn.”
Najib said Sg Kandis folk needed “a voice” to ensure promises made by the PH government are fulfilled.
That voice, he said, is Lokman’s, whom he described as an educated and fearless fighter.
Najib said Lokman was sacked from Umno in 1999 because he fought againt the “tyranny of Anwar Ibrahim”.
“As a reformist fighter, he was jailed for 1,000 days under the ISA (the now repealed Internal Security Act).
Najib said Lokman was similarly sacked from PKR for raising the issue of misuse of public funds by party leaders. – August 3, 2018.
