POLITICAL appointees of the new Pakatan Harapan government who have yet to receive their salaries or offer letters have been told to be patient.

Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad said he will ask those involved in issuing salaries or offer letters to speed up the matter but added there were procedures that would take time under the new administration.

“I will ask them. But the appointees must be patient,” he told reporters at Parliament after the Pakatan Harapan presidential meeting today.

He said the delay was to be expected as the federal government had changed after six decades, which was a rare occasion.

“We have changed a government after 60 years, it is not something we do everyday and it is once in 60 years, so the next time will be another 60 years.

“There are things to be gone through, certain things to be signed,” he added.

He, however, assured that the appointees will receive their pay.

“We’ll give them,” said Dr Mahathir.

It was reported that the political appointees have yet to receive their salaries after two months into the job.

The appointees include special secretaries and aides to the first 13 ministers who were sworn in two weeks after PH took over Putrajaya in the 14th general election. – August 2, 2018.
