A LAWMAKER in Terengganu has alleged that students interviewing to enter military schools are forced to undergo humiliating procedures that go against Islamic values.
Speaking in the Dewan Rakyat this afternoon, Wan Hassan Mohd Ramli (PAS-Dungun) alleged that male interviewees were required to strip naked, even in the presence of female medical staff.
The MP said the practice was revealed in a letter sent by an unhappy student to the Terengganu shariah implementation, education and higher education exco late last month.
He said the student said such procedures were practicsd at the National Defence University of Malaysia and the Royal Military College.
“The graduate was unhappy about the interview procedures, claiming that they were very humiliating and against the values of Islam and eastern communities, including Malays and other races,” said Wan Hassan.
“The procedures included having to strip naked in groups, even in front of female medical staff. Interviewees have to take part in activities like push-ups, jumps and others that should not be mentioned here.
“It is said that similar things happen in the military where (personnel) were touched by female medical staff,” he said in his motion of thanks for the Yang di-Pertuan Agong’s royal address. – July 30, 2018.
