THE master plan for Kg Baru, Kuala Lumpur’s last Malay enclave, will be reviewed, said Federal Territories Minister Khalid Abdul Samad.

He said the plan will be studied, taking into account experts’ views.

“Kuala Lumpur is overdeveloped and has become a concrete jungle. We will have to come up with a modern master plan for Kg Baru.

“I will raise the issue with Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad,” he said after a briefing at the Kg Baru Foundation in Jalan Raja Abdullah.

He said Kg Baru has yet to be redeveloped as issues relating to land heirs remain unresolved.

Khalid said discussions on the master plan will start in the next few months.

“The redevelopment must take place.

“We have to look at a workable business model. We also need to engage stakeholders.”

He assured landowners that they will be compensated.

“We will stick to the market value, and we will ensure that the owners are well compensated.”

He said one of the issues holding back the redevelopment is finding the heirs to plots of land.

“If we can’t find the heirs now, we will set up a trust fund first, and when we have identified the heirs, they will be compensated.” – July 27, 2018.
