THE pledge to reform Malaysia’s institutions was what bound the leadership and parties of Pakatan Harapan, PKR vice-president Nurul Izzah Anwar said today.

She was asked to comment on the impact of Dr Mahathir Mohamed’s appointment as chairman of PH, following concerns over allegations that might be raised during the government’s investigations into the purported Bank Negara forex loses scandal that date back to the years when the former prime minister was in power.
Nurul Izzah said  the opposition needed to be inclusive in its effort to remove Barisan Nasional from Putrajaya, and Dr Mahathir Mohamad was one of the leading figures that had helped to get its message across.

“The biggest reminder to Malaysians is how terrible this kleptocratic government is under Najib Razak. So, let’s be inclusive, we definitely have to prove our pledges with actions, same as Dr Mahathir.

“He has to prove his words with actions, and so far I’m quite happy that he’s been working very hard to convince the masses of the need to overthrow not only Najib, but (reform) the system,” she said during a visit to PPR Kg Muhibbah in Kuala Lumpur.

Dr Mahathir and his erstwhile nemesis Anwar Ibrahim are teaming up to overthrow Najib in the 14th General Election, sharing the responsibility of leading the Pakatan Harapan coalition with Anwar’s wife, Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, who was named president of the opposition coalition.

“I don’t need to comment on the various viewpoints, the structure is what binds us and all of us have an egalitarian viewpoint on how things are conducted in pakatan harapan

“I’m not in the top structure, but I have no issues or no qualms making sure my voice is heard clearly especially in regards to reminders on reform pledges.

She said the recent remarks by Dr Mahathir that he did not care if he was labelled a pupet was a good way to silence people who might make similar claims.

“It’s an important development, we need to get our voices across and doesn’t matter who the messenger is for as long as reform is paramount,” she said. – July 21, 2017.
