Ex-MACC chief now lawyer in firm appointed by Umno to claim seized millions

FORMER Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission chief Dzulkifli Ahmad has been hired by a law firm engaged to recover RM116.7 million seized in police raids linked to the 1Malaysia Development Bhd probe.

A search on the Malaysian Bar website showed that Dzulkifli is a registered lawyer working with Scivetti & Associates. His data was last updated on July 9.

The firm was recently appointed by Umno to look into recovering cash seized by police from premises linked to former prime minister Najib Razak.

Money and valuables, worth more than RM1.1 billion, were seized from the premises, in connection with investigations into the 1MDB scandal.

Tania Scivetti, who runs the firm, had worked with Umno lawyer Muhammad Shafee Abdullah on several cases. Scivetti, born in Australia and educated in the US, was admitted to practice in the high court of Malaysia in 2007.

Shafee is the lead counsel for Najib, who faces graft charges relating to SRC International, a former 1MDB subsidiary that is now owned by the Finance Ministry.

Dzulkifli, a graduate of International Islamic University Malaysia, resigned as MACC chief on May 14, five days after Pakatan Harapan won the 14th general election.

He then returned to his former post in the Attorney-General’s Chambers, but was ordered to go on early retirement.

Dzulkifli was seconded to head MACC on August 1, 2016, after the top post was left vacant by Abu Kassim Mohamed. Dzulkifli’s MACC term was supposed to end in 2021.

He was caught in a controversy last October after a series of videos emerged, alleging that he was involved in an extramarital affair.

Police last year said they had opened investigation papers on the case, but there has yet to be any development. – July 21, 2018.

  • FORMER Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission chief versus Incumbent Anti-Corruption Commission chief with RM116.7 million as the standing reward for the former? Is Dzulkifli Ahmad really so keen to see his day in court?Has Mr Amal Singh complied with UMNO's "reasonable seven days deadline" to provide a detailed inventory of what was seized from UMNO? Does UMNO not have its books?

  • Fang & Claw, Advocate & Solicitors? A feeble-minded plagiarism of Douglas Adams's Dirk Gently? (Only this would be more of an unsavory chapter from the annals of an Unholy Detective Agency, not a Holistic one!)

  • From fighting corruption on the "other side" to now claiming back "UMNO money" from this side. Dzulkifli Ahmad is either very "versatile" or very corrupted given his "outstanding" track record and illustrious career with MACC.
