KUALA Lumpur City Hall will start working on the KL Draft City Plan 2020 to 2040 once the current plan is gazetted this year, said Federal Territories Minister Khalid Samad.

He said the new plan will be gazetted in the next two years.

“There must be no more hanky-panky in the development of the city.

“We will start work to get feedback from residents, stakeholders and civil society groups beginning early next year,” he said after meeting with the Kuala Lumpur MPs at the council’s headquarters today.

Khalid said that the plan was expected to be gazetted before the end of the year.

“The structure plan has already been gazetted. We are waiting to gazette the local plan.”

The first draft of the plan was unveiled in May 2008 and, 10 years later, Kuala Lumpur City Hall was still amending the proposal based on feedback.

Khalid said the gazetting process would take three to four months.

Earlier, during the meeting with the MPs, Khalid said he had asked them to list down issues they faced in their constituencies.

“Some can be solved immediately but for some, we have to go to the site.

“This meeting was to give MPs a structured mechanism to raise their issues.”

Khalid said that previously, MPs found it hard to get the cooperation of the previous government.

“We are no longer in the opposition and we need to work together to solve problems.”

Khalid said the most common problem concerned development.

“This pertains to land approvals but not all are from the ministry or Kuala Lumpur City Hall. Some are from the Land Office and Prime Minister’s Department.

“Some plots of land were sold for high-density projects because the developer had to compensate for building low-cost housing for the poor.

“I dont deny that some projects have to be reviewed back as they favour the developer.” – July 20, 2018.

  • YB Khalid should urgently look into revamping DBKL top to bottom to make it to serve the public. Now most of the staff are arrogant and are not doing their job.A simple license renewal can take years to approve, dont knpw why.Is it because the staff are playing truant or cheating on their job.Why is DBKL service to the people is so very poor.?YB Khalid should set the deadlines for performance of DBKL.Even though DBKL is overstaffed.most of the services are pricatised to BN/UMNO BARU cronies.Even enforcement is privatised
