UMNO has no plans to replace opposition leader Ahmad Zahid Hamidi with Najib Razak, said secretary-general Annuar Musa.

He brushed off a “suggestion” by Economic Affairs Minister Mohamed Azmin Ali, who, during question-and-answer time in the Dewan Rakyat today, said the former prime minister would make a better opposition leader than Zahid.

“Umno has made its decision, that Zahid is the opposition leader.

“Azmin has the right to make suggestions, anyone can give suggestions, but we have made our decision to appoint Zahid.”

Annuar was responding to Azmin’s reply this morning after Najib questioned the Pakatan Harapan government over its claim that the cost of the Kuala Lumpur-Singapore High-Speed Rail (HSR) project had been inflated to RM110 billion.

The HSR deal was inked with Singapore under Najib’s administration. The project was pegged at between RM50 billion and RM70 billion. – July 18, 2018.
