NEWLY elected MIC president S.A. Vigneswaran is a dynamic and daring person who will bring about changes to the party and protect the interest of Indians, said S. Rajah.

The Federal Territories state secretary said that MIC aimed to become a trusted and transparent party for the Indian community.

“It cannot be a one-man show like what was done previously by other leaders.

“The right president is here to bring up the party,” he told The Malaysian Insight.

Vigneswaran was named MIC president after winning the top post at the party polls today.

The Dewan Negara speaker won the post uncontested after receiving 1,808 nominations.

Rajah said Vigneswaran must also encourage more youth to join the party.

“We need more young people to lift up the party, and we believe he can do it.”

Vigneswaran, who is also a former vice-president, takes over leadership of the party from Dr S. Subramaniam.

The former health minister lost the Segamat parliamentary seat in the 14th general election.

Presidential Election Committee chairman R. Gobalakrishnan announced the victory after Vigneswaran’s bid went unchallenged as the nomination process closed at noon.

Vigneswaran had received the support of 3,616 out of the 4,300 branches across the country.

The Barisan Nasional component party will continue the process of selecting candidates for the division, state and branch levels until the end of the year. – July 14, 2018.
