THE air-conditioning has been cut off at Sabah’s largest hypermall, 1 Borneo, after the management failed to pay the outstanding electricity bill of RM8.7 million.
It is learnt the mall has been in arrears for more than a year.
On June 25, Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB) warned the mall that the bill had reached RM9.3 million and the power supply would be cut off if payment was not made.
But the mall operator, 1Borneo Management Corporation, paid only the current bill of RM705,000.
On July 11, SESB ordered the power supply cut off, stating it was in accordance to Article 4(2) of the Electric Supply Act 1990, License Holder Supply Regulations (amended) 2002.
Sepanggar MP Azis Jamman has appealed to SESB to give the mall operator time to settle its dues.
Reports say only the air-conditioning in the mall is affected by the power cut and that the lights and escalators are working. – July 12, 2018.
