PENANG PKR leaders alleged today that some voters in the state had been moved to other state seats without their knowledge after they gave their MyKad information to certain individuals.
PKR national strategy director Sim Tze Tzin said some voters complained to the party’s service centres that they were offered RM80 for their MyKad while some claimed that it was to help them get aid.
“We then discovered the addresses where they should be voting had been changed. We have cases like this in constituencies in other states too,” he told reporters today.
Last week, a police report was lodged when Penang DAP reps found about 100 voters in several residential areas in Jawi and Sungai Bakap in the Nibong Tebal parliamentary constituency had been moved to Prai.
Sim, who is Bayan Baru MP, said the same had happened in his area, where voters had complained of being shifted from the Batu Uban and Pantai Jerejak state seats to Batu Maung; and even as far as Balik Pulau, a different parliamentary constituency.
He claimed that the shifting of voters to other state seats had been happening for two years now.
“This is more common in critical areas – marginal seats where every vote counts.
Penang PKR chief Mansor Othman, who is also Nibong Tebal MP, said the party had checked the electoral roll and supplementary electoral roll and discovered that four state seats contested by PKR were “targets”.
“They are targeting Seberang Jaya, Sungai Bakap, Sungai Acheh and Batu Maung. These are seats we won or lost marginally,” he said.
Mansor said since the fourth quarter of 2015, Seberang Jaya had seen 852 voter movements, Sungai Bakap 1,819, Sungai Acheh 654, and Batu Maung 1,908.
“We believe this operation to shift voters is ongoing, with voters’ MyKad taken by certain parties and held for a few days for their voting information to be changed.
“If we don’t highlight this issue, it will perhaps go on until the next polls,” Mansor said. – July 14, 2017.
