UMNO Youth has pledged to play the role of watchdog and defender of the people as the new Pakatan Harapan government has shown it is far from faultless, said its newly elected chief Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki.

“We will be an opposition with integrity. Umno Youth must rise up to give voice to the sentiments of the people so that we can be a balance to the government. Because our current government is no angel who is without sin or wrongs. They are just normal people.

“It hasn’t even been 100 days and already they have touched on fundamental national issues, religion, constitution, governance… which makes it clear that Umno Youth must play the role of the voice of the people,” he said at the Putra World Trade Centre, today.

Asyraf, who was formerly a deputy minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, said Umno Youth would not resort to the “slanderous and emotional” tactics of Pakatan Harapan leaders when they were the opposition.

“Our approach will focus on knowledge and facts. Not like the last opposition – slanderous and emotional.

“No dirty politics, ours will be harmonious in nature, based on facts and for the good of the people and the country.

“We are ready to hold dialogues with any party in order to make our stand clear,” he said. – July 9, 2018.

  • Was UMNO BN under Najib angels or devils? If your mentality remains as like before GE14 I am sorry to say the devils in UMNO will remain

  • Umno's destructive ideology & policies do not help make them a constructive opposition party. They only view matters through race & religion & are bankrupt of progressive ideas needed for the betterment of the nation. Pas is equally a disaster. PH has to do what is necessary for the country to progress & be transparent to the people so as to get their buy in.

  • You want to be defender of the people? You had the entire govt machinery with you and you cudnt be the defender of the people. Now you are not in the goverment , you want to be defender of the people. You want to be a opposition of integrity but you had zero integrity when you were the government. You dedak infested brain makes you talk like a moron.

    • Absolutely correct! The denial syndrome is strong with this one. Naturally, this new Youth Chief is very different than the old Youth Chief KJ where he started to admit Dumno's faults and weaknesses. As a result, KJ didn't get the position he wanted. Showed that the entire "opposition" party members are still in denial hence culminating in the "boiled frog" syndrome. Good luck! The train has left the station and those in denial will be left behind.

  • You are part of an evil and despicable organization which almost bled the country dry. Protect us? With that same keris that one of you at one time said would bathe it in Chinese blood? That's dandy. Well, you can go s***w yourself with that keris.

  • It's very sad that the new opposition really has no credibility. where was this fella and the whole of umno when they were the ruling party? certainlu not defending the rakyat. If I was advising umno, i'll tell them to lay low, appear to fix the party first, or perhaps actually fIx It, after 2 - 3 years then come out and talk about defending the rakyat.

  • Maybe they are no angels but at least they are no devils

  • The question has to be asked...Just how in the world, or how on earth can this NewMalaysia govt even pretend to be angels? The Ministers & senior govt officials wear frowns on their face as they hurry to unravel past excesses & wrongdoings of the previous Umno govt & deliver promised reforms within the first 100 days period post GE14, and falling short because there is not enough time or money or much too much work or because they have not learnt to delegate work & duties to competent and energetic professionals..
