PAKATAN Harapan will be using PKR’s blue-and-red eye logo for the Sg Kandis by-election, the same one it used to great success in the 14th general election.
Coalition chairman Dr Mahathir Mohamad said this is since PH’s red-and-white logo was relatively new and could confuse voters.
“We do not want to confuse the people. We will be contesting using the logo and symbol of PKR,” Dr Mahathir said during a press conference at the Perdana Leadership Foundation.
The seat fell vacant after its assemblyman, Mat Shuhaimi Shafiei, 50, died of cancer on Monday.
Dr Mahathir said another candidate from PKR will be fielded.
PKR is one of four PH component parties together with DAP, Amanah and Bersatu. In GE14, the coalition decided to use PKR’s logo as a common symbol and flag for all its candidates, a factor which analysts said led to its historic victory.
Meanwhile, PKR secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said the party has still not decided on its candidate.
“I have informed Selangor PKR to shortlist the names but I have not received any. When we receive the names, the top leadership will make a decision and get the approval of PH leaders,” he said today.
In GE14, Shuhaimi defeated Kamaruzzaman Johari (Barisan Nasional) and Mohd Yusof Abdullah (PAS) by 12,480 votes.
Shuhaimi, 50, a former political secretary to former Selangor menteri besar Mohamed Azmin Ali, died of lymphoma cancer. – July 6, 2018.
