SUSANNA Liew, the wife of missing Pastor Raymond Koh, wants a full explanation from the police on the progress into her husband’s case, saying that she has yet to be briefed by authorities.

Referring to reports yesterday quoting Inspector-General of Police Khalid Abu Bakar about new leads regarding her husband’s abduction, Liew said like the rest of Malaysia, all she knew was what she had read in the media.

“As with the previous announcements made by the IGP to the media about my husband’s abduction on April 6 and May 24, I have not been briefed about any of these so-called developments, leads or arrests by the police,” Liew said in a statement today.

Khalid yesterday said that the police have stumbled upon a new lead in Koh’s case while cracking down on a smuggling ring in Kedah on June 17.

Photos believed to be that of the pastor’s house and his two vehicles, and a vehicle licence plate bearing the number ST 5515 D were found in the home of the prime suspect after he was shot dead by police during the operation in Kampung Weng Dalam last week.

Police said the suspect’s widow had been arrested along with three suspected ring members.

Liew said that past meetings she had with the police on March 6 and March 23 were less about actual updates on the case but more about asking her to not engage with the media and to not attend public vigils and gatherings.

“I hope that the police will contact me soon to arrange a meeting and to give me a proper update about my husband’s case. This update should also include a full explanation about the announcements they made on April 6 and May 24.”

“I also urge the police to cooperate with the investigation being conducted by Suhakam and to update them as well,” she said.

Koh was kidnapped in Petaling Jaya on February 13, and his family has yet to receive any ransom demands, which heightened the mystery over the abduction.

The ensuing silence from the authorities had prompted Human Rights Commission of Malaysia (Suhakam) to launch an investigation into the abduction that has raised fears of religious vigilantism.

After interviewing the pastor’s family and friends, Suhakam announced that it would be questioning the police about the case after the Raya holidays. – June 26, 2017.
