Khaled Nordin and Johari Ghani still in race for Umno veep

Umno secretary-general Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor says former Johor menteri besar Khaled Nordin and former second finance minister Johari Abdul Ghani are still in the race for the third vice-president post as votes at 34 divisions have not been counted. – The Malaysian Insight pic by Seth Akmal, July 1, 2018.

FORMER Johor menteri besar Khaled Nordin and former second finance minister Johari Abdul Ghani are in a close fight to clinch the remaining Umno vice-president spot, said party secretary-general Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor.

He said the two other vice-president positions have already been won by Bera MP Ismail Sabri Yaakob (146 divisions) and former education minister Mahdzir Khalid (99 divisions).

“Only two names can be mentioned. The third position still is being counted, there are 34 divisions left.

“Khaled Nordin and Johari Ghani and neck and neck with each other,” Tengku Adnan said in a press conference late last night.

He also announced Ahmad Zahid Hamidi as Umno president with winning 78 divisions against former youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin who won only 53 divisions

Former Negri Sembilan menteri besar Muhammad Hassan was named as deputy president with 110 votes beating former information chief Annuar Musa, who managed to only garner 47 votes.

Tengku Adnan also said the full results cannot be announced yet as there were still 34 divisions that have not been counted.

He said the full results are expected to be released by tomorrow.

The former federal territories minister added the polls were suspended in Umno Bakri as there were irregularities.

“We have to suspended the Bakri division because of problems,” Tengku Adnan said. – July 1, 2018.
