THE 14th parliament session will primarily focus on key reforms promised by Pakatan Harapan, apart from addressing issues related to the economy, said PKR’s Fahmi Fadzil.

The Lembah Pantai MP said one of the first priorities of the new government was to do an extensive clean up, conduct forensic audits of how money was spent by the previous administration and bring those responsible to account.

“The previous administration and political leaders of the previous regime have been sweeping things under the carpet.

“Now as we have started getting into the ministries, they are lifting those carpets and finally found the extent to which the rot has set in.

“I think that would be the primary duty because of the corruption and practices of the previous administration,” he told reporters after the forum Cost of Living in Malaysia: Asking the right policy questions in Kuala Lumpur today.

Fahmi was asked to address criticism that that the new government was not doing enough to address the rising cost of living.

He said solutions to facilitate the matter did not only come from increasing wages or identifying today’s liveable living wage.

“A lot of people are hoping that we will tackle issues related to the economy.

“I think we also have to look at how technology and internet is disrupting the idea of work itself.

“And I hope this reality is something that the MPs can really have at the back of their minds as we discuss to formulate and put together policies that will ultimately have short, medium and long term effects and impacts on the economy that we are working on to the future,” he said.

The first Parliament meeting of the 14th Dewan Rakyat will commence on July 16, and will sit for 20 days. – June 29, 2018.
