WAN Saiful Wan Jan, who was appointed National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN) chairman on June 18, has completed the process of removing more than 400,000 loan defaulters from the Immigration travel blacklist.

The academic turned Bersatu member said in his first week on the job, 429,945 loan defaulters are now able to travel.

“Since being appointed on June 18, it has been about a week. I am happy that I resolved this matter first,” he told The Malaysian Insight.

Wan Saiful, who contested in Pendang, Kedah, in the 14th general election, said he was working on cementing PTPTN’s new direction and would need two to three months to complete it.

“I only had my first board meeting today. I have asked for a review of the current plans and reports on what has been done.

“We will know what needs to be done in about two three months,” he added.

The new PH government has not yet been able to fulfil its election promise of deferring PTPTN repayments until borrowers earn RM4,000 a month due to the country’s high debt levels, but had said it would help those blacklisted from travelling. – June 26, 2018.
