BERSATU is planning to venture into Sarawak politics, its chairman, Dr Mahathir Mohamad, said today.
The prime minister said as all Pakatan Harapan parties were already in Sarawak, there was no reason for Bersatu not to follow suit.
“We will go to Sarawak. It had not been decided. We decided since that all other Pakatan Harapan parties are already there,” Dr Mahathir said today.
The 93-year old said Bersatu would not, however, venture into Sabah as Parti Warisan Sabah is an ally.
“We won’t go to Sabah because we accept Warisan as a friendly party,” Dr Mahathir said.
On the recently formed Gabungan Parti Sarawak coalition, Dr Mahathir said it was up to PH to accept its membership if it were to apply.
“They don’t have to join if they don’t want to,” he said.
Yesterday, Sarawak Chief Minister Abang Johari Openg had a meeting with Dr Mahathir at his official residence in Putrajaya.
It was Abang Johari’s first meeting with the prime minister since his government spurned Barisan Nasional to form GPS.
Abang Johari had previously said GPS would remain the opposition, but work with the PH federal government on certain issues. – June 25, 2018.
