FORMER Umno MP Noor Azmi Ghazali has received flak over his decision to quit the party for Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu), with social media users saying he was only looking out for his interest, not the people’s.
On Twitter, Muhammad Zamri said Pakatan Harapan (PH) does not need a leader who switches party easily.
“What kind of leader is he. (He) should have waited until the 15th general election if he wants to ‘escape’ (Umno),” he said.
Abraham George said Noor Azmi should have had some self-respect instead and his decision shows that he has no loyalty towards his previous party.
“Have some self-respect. This kind of politician is the worst possible type. No loyalty, no principles. What a waste of space.”
Victor Nonis questioned Noor Azmi’s move as he could have left the party before Barisan Nasional’s shocking defeat in the May 9 general election but instead he chose to do it now.
“Umno members now wanting to join Bersatu is actually an issue of one looking after their own interests.
“Why did they not leave Umno before GE14? These are exactly the sort we do not want in PH,” he said in a Facebook post.
PH was also reminded that accepting those from the Barisan Nasional would not sit well with the public.
Cb Teng said PH should not accept former Umno members, especially after GE14.
Li Mun Kwong said the public does not want another Umno in the new PH government.
“Why PH especially Bersatu is so willing to accept all those katak (frogs) who are only interested in their own benefits? We do not vote you in to have another Umno in PH.
“Please be more sensible and strict in accepting crossover members especially from Umno.”
Dr Noor Azmi is the first Umno MP to leave the party since GE14.
The Bagan Serai MP said he is independent for now but is planning to join Bersatu at a later date.
Deputy Prime Minister and PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail applauded Noor Azmi’s decision and said it should be respected. – June 24, 2018
